Growing Pains
Not a whole lot is going on at the Luck casa. Logan starts school on Monday so we have been working on getting him on a schedule at night and in the morning. We have certainly lapsed into staying up late and sleeping in, but that has changed this last week. The hardest part is naps. Logan doesn't always take a nap and I don't force him to. There are no naps in Kindergarten so he needs to learn to go without, which is fine, he usually does anyway. The problem is that he usually gets tired around 5 or 6 and I just let him sleep. Then he wakes up after and doesn't want to sleep at night. The thing is, if he is ready to fall asleep at 5, trying to keep him awake until 8:30 is torture. I mean pure hell. Yesterday he got sleepy at 4 so I let him take an hour nap. Waking him up is never fun either, but as I said..we are trying to get him on a schedule. I woke him up at 5, and he didn't go to bed until 11. NOT GOOD! The thing is, if takes even the smallest nap, he will be up late at night. He will be in school from 7:40 to 2:40, So I am thinking maybe if I let him take a nap at 3, it will be a little better??? Ughh. Also, our rule is that he needs to be asleep by 10 to ensure he gets at least 8 hours of sleep. The only reason I said 8:30 earlier is because that is the earliest he can go to bed. Any earlier and he will wake up around midnight and be up ALL NIGHT. Another thing we are trying to get our kids to do is go to bed on their own. Since Logan was born, we have basically just put the kids down when either JR or I goes to bed (Usually JR since he always goes to bed first). What we're trying to do is get them tucked in at 9 so that they have time to put themselves to bed, and JR and I can have an hour together before we go to bed. This working great until last night. We have been putting them to bed at nine (by the way, they refuse to sleep in their own beds...they sleep together in the playroom on a queen size air mattress). We usually put on a movie, and they fall asleep by 9:30...10 at the latest, but up until last night they had been asleep by 9:30. Because of the nap yesterday, Logan was still awake at 11 when I went upstairs to go to bed. I still put him to bed at 9 as usual, but he just didn't fall asleep. At 11 I turned off the tv, Landry was already out, and Logan was being good just laying in bed. I just told him to close his eyes and count to 100! At 11:20 I went to check on him, he was out...I don't know how far he made it to 100. I am really happy with how easily the kids took to going to bed on their own. We were super worried that they would get out of bed and play, or come downstairs...and yes, they do play and talk to each other, they do stay in the bed. Anyhoo, last night at 12:45 Landry woke up crying. JR went to comfort her. He ended up turning on Toy Story 3 for her. At 1:30 she was crying again so I got up to check on her. She said she wanted to sleep with me so I brought her to our bed. This is not a normal thing for her, so I thought she might be having bad dreams. 20 minutes later she woke me up to tell me about polar bears! Ughh! I told her to close her eyes and go night night. 2:30 she was crying again, she got JR to take her to the bathroom and afterwards he took her back to the playroom bed. At 4:00 she was crying "mommy, mommy, where are you." I got up and cuddled with her. JR and I were both worn out. I brought her back to bed with me and she quickly fell asleep. At 5:20 (right before JR's alarm went off) she woke up crying again. This time JR and I fought over who would get up with her...my argument was that I had gotten up the last time AND he had to be up at 5:30 anyway...so he should do it. He said a few 4 letter words then got up and put on Toy Story 3..AGAIN. Except by this time, Landry had woken Logan up and the DVR wasn't working. JR couldn't get the movie to come on...he got frustrated, told me it was my problem and got in the shower. I couldn't get the movie list up either, so I put on Tom and Jerry. Logan watched...Landry cried. My patience wore out, so I took her to her bedroom, put her in bed, and told her to go to sleep and not to get out of her bed again. Logan was still watching tv when I walked back into my bedroom. I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow. JR woke me up a few minutes later to tell me he was leaving for work, Landry was asleep in her bed and Logan had already fallen asleep! YES! My alarm went off at 7:30...I ignored it until 7:50, at which point I heard Logan waking up, and forced my ass out of bed. I let Landry sleep until almost 9. I guess we will see how today goes. Hopefully tonight will be better. We have to get back to the schedule..I am supposed to get the kids up at 7 tomorrow, so we better get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow night is meet the teacher night. We got a post card from the school yesterday that told us who is teacher will be! We are excited!
As for the growing pains...our neighborhood is growing like crazy. The street we live on wasn't even here 2 years ago...in fact they were in the construction period of building this road when we moved from the first we lived in here in Kyle. When we started buildin our house their only 8 or so homes on our street. Now, it is full, with the exception of a few unsold lots. However, on our block alone their are 15 houses being built right now. A couple of blocks over from us there are about 10 more houses going up, and they just started clearing the land behind our block...so I am guess they will be putting in a few more streets in the near future! It's pretty crazy how quickly our little block is growing. Also, we checked the website, and the base model home we built is now $15,000 more now than it was when we bought it. That's kind of exciting, I guess. I dont know much about all that stuff, but JR said it was good, something about appraisal going up or some such thing! I just can't get over how many houses are being built right now! Talk about a boom!
