new family addition

JR and I are ready to add a new member to the family...we are going to adopt a kitty. JR has been talking about getting a dog for a while now, however; I don't have the time or the patience to potty train a dog. So, I have talked JR into letting us get a cat. We were going to go look today since the Austin Adoption Organization is doing this huge "meet a pet"..and their adoption fee for today only is $25. Regularly it's $125 for cats under 2. But it includes everything, shots, worming, microchip, 30 day pet insurance....But....we may be going out of town next weekend so I don't want to get a cat if we are going to be traveling next weekend. So we have made the decision, but we are going to wait until we will be home. So any of you guys with cats that have any suggestions on what to look for in this adoption process, please share with me. The last thing I want is to bring an animal home with me that my kids and I fall in love with only to have something wrong with it. It would kill me!
Also, Landry's birthday is 11 weeks away and I need to think of something to do for the party. So any suggestions are welcome!
In 5 weeks and 3 days Logan will be starting his first day of school!!! I can't believe it!

So exciting!!! Make sure you choose a cat that is friendly with you guys. Don't choose the cat because she's pretty. That's what we did with Bella AND Sagira. And they are both psychotic. Are you going to try to get a kitten?

Yeah, I really want a kitten...from my experience, every kitten I have ever had grew to be part of the family. The few times we took in an adult cat - they were always skittish and always hid from people. What's funny is my mom says I always take the ugly ones! I, of course, thought all my cats were cute - some just had...character! LOL

I agree. Kittens are so easy and they're SO DANG CUTE. Puppies on the other hand... Cute, but REALLY hard to take care of. Good luck!
