Our visit to the studio...

Well, first let me just say that I was right in the fact that I got pretty overwhelmed. It also didn't help to have the kids with us, and my mom wasn't feeling well, so she didn't go with us. The first hours was okay, although the kids were pretty trying. I think during that time period, I was still really into it, and I wanted every little thing upgraded - I was not sticking to the plan at all. During the second hour I was particularly overwhelmed bicking out brick color, brick style, siding color, trim color, a garage door style, type of window and color. I honestly have no idea if the trim, siding, and brick is going to flow - or match...definitely going to have to look at it first thing Saturday when we go back for our final appointment. Then we moved on to flooring. I have to say that I perked up while looking at the wood flooring, we picked out two styles that I will come back to in a minute...Then we moved to tile, and once again it was hard to concentrate. The kids at this point were hungry and tired, and each tile looked pretty much the same to me. Picking out floor tile, kitchen backsplash tile, shower tile...ummm - I remember the master bath tile...but the rest, I couldn't tell you what we selected. Finally at the end the sales lady, took the packet and totalled it all up....ummmmm. Close to $19,000 in uprades. Yikes! Our budget was only for a little over $15,000...so, we had about $3500 to cut.

Back to our wood floors, the floor that we fell in love with was going to cost us $7400. Our second choice that we picked was going to run us $4,500 but I just couldn't wrap my head around it, because I wanted the more expensive one sooooooo badly. Once we got home we went through the packet and realized how much we would have to get rid of in order to have it, but at the same time I just didn't feel like I wanted to pay over 4 thousand dollars for somethin that I felt was only mediocre...I told JR that I want to LOVE my flooring, especially for the price we have to pay to get it. Apparently, telling JR that only sparked a new thought for him. He said, why dont we just get the carpet that comes included in the house, and we can go to Lowes and buy the flooring and have it installed for much less that KB was going to charge us. In fact...we went to Lowes and found something VERY similar to our first option for about a third of the price! So, while we have to go into the house after its built only to rip up carpet and replace the flooring, it is totally worth it. Plus, we get to use our upgrades for some things that we wouldn't have gotten.

It all works out in the end, but Saturday ought to be an interesting day considering that we have to change so much on our packet! Grrr. The good news is after Saturday they will start ordering the stuff for the house, we will be one step closer to having our pre-construction meeting. One step closer to the house actually being built, and we will have a final price for our home - so I will actually know exactly how much our mortgage will be. I sitll can't believe how low our interest rate is, or the fact that our mortgage wont be any more than $100 more than what we pay now for our stupid, crappy home - that we seriously can't wait to get out of.

Ahhhh! I'm so excited!!! Do you have any friends in the area that can help you put in the flooring? That can take a while and you need to make sure you put it in tight, otherwise you'll get gaps. I have never done it before, but I've watched Travis do it.

I suggested that we just pay Lowe's to do it for us. They only charge $397 plus 18 cents per square foot for any removal - such as the carpet. I, personally, feel that it is worth the money to have a professional do it, but of course - JR is Mr. Macho man and is convinced he can do it. He has only watch 900 youtube videos on the subject and feels quite confident in his abilities...UGHHHH Stupid man! However, he knows several guys at work who have done it before since they all work in construction so he said he would get their help while I paint! LOL I would also rather hire someone to paint! I also made him promise me that if they get started and it becomes too much, that he will stop and we will call Lowe's. So I guess that's compromise! LOL

I am so excited as well. We have our final appointment this Saturday. I am ready to get it going. I drove by the lot today and they had a big construction dumpster there and it looked like they had cleared some of the lot. They won't start building until we have the pre-construction meeting, which isn't until after the final studio appt. I am hoping to see a crew out there no later than the week following Thanksgiving...fingers crossed. I want that house done by Feb. 1. LOL
